  • Belonging: Restoring Self, Soul, and Spirit in an Age of Isolation

Belonging is the title of Dr. Hull’s doctoral dissertation research, and it represents the culmination of a participatory research project focused on uncovering and understanding the power of community group situations to heal major traumas. Taking an in-depth look at a spiritually oriented (but not religious) community group in post-9/11 New York City, Dr. Hull discovers that there are many reasons, both tangible and not-so-tangible, why community is so important in the lives of modern city-dwellers. This book reveals the importance of creating a sense of belonging, listening, and connection in order for people to feel fully alive, to grow and thrive in today’s harried world.

  • Lessons in Life-Shifting: The Portfolio Life

Do you remember how life played out when we were kids? Most days were made up of a little of this and a little of that: a little time at school, a little time at play, a little time with mom/dad and maybe siblings, a little homework or TV, and lots of sleep. Even at school as a child, the day was chopped up into a series of multiple adventures: arts and music, math and science, reading and maybe physical education or sports. There was no one activity that predominated: we lived what I have come to call, a "portfolio life."

  • How to Perfect Your Marketing? With the Help of a Few Good...Nurses?

In this article from the business newsletter, Genesis: Exploring the World of Business from the Inside Out, Dr. Hull offers a unique perspective on the key to successful marketing: it is all about relationships. Of course, this is nothing new by itself, but if you take a close look at how real "relationship" people work successfully—by examining the particular craft of nursing, for example—you can learn a great deal about how relationship-building really works. Dr. Hull takes us on a tour of the nursing profession and demonstrates in a rather offbeat way, that sometimes you need to venture beyond the world of sales/marketing to find the keys to success in sales/marketing!

  • What Is a People Strategy?

This article seeks to update the aging face of theories about business strategy with the radical idea of—including the people! Strategy is not just about plans, numbers, products or even processes. Where would all of these get you if there where no people to carry them out? Cutting through the jargon of business strategy and management consulting in general, this article reminds organizational leaders of all stripes that all plans, all visions, and all goals must start with people. Here you will learn how to design, approach and execute a "people strategy," which is the foundation on which all successful organizations are built!

  • What is this Business of "Growing a Business?"

What is the key to growing a business in today’s crazy, frenetic business environment? In this article, Dr. Hull takes a look at what passes for “cutting edge” thinking on today’s business conference circuit—and find it sorely lacking. In response, Dr. Hull shares his thoughts on what an inspiring and innovative conference on business growth just might look like. The emphasis here is upon growing, not the business, but the people in it! Now this does not detract from the need to finance, operate, market, and strategize, but it takes us down an additional path, where the true foundations of growth (any kind of growth) can be found.
